tikkamark
Does anyone know if any damage is caused by pulling the trigger on an empty rifle chamber?I know damage can be done to a shotgun if this is done but can the same occur with a rifle? dazzyboi
air rifle? springed air rifles yes. As there is no pressure resistance from the pellet, it will hurl the piston into what ever is stopping it. PCP's, i dont think so? Rim/centrefires. im not sure? although iv seen people dry firing it without a round in the chamber.
njc110381
In my opinion, dry firing a centre fire rifle will be a bad thing, as the firing pin is the same as in a shotgun. I'm really not sure about rimfire. Spring air rifles suffer, pre charged will be fine
rarms
Centerfire should be ok. Rimfire, very bad you will put a nick in the breech face of the barrel as well as possibly damaging the pin. Shotgun, rumuored to be bad, and may well be on old guns, modern guns should stand up to it though. As has been said, spring air rifles no, PCP's should be ok
