Offered to take a look to see if any rats are about at a local farm (where we keep our horses so we know the people there). Said I'd walk on at around midnight to have a scout around... This was all fine.

Except when I'm walking down the drive with my gun, the stablehand's son drives past and sh*ts himself. Tells his mum who hadn't been told I was coming on (I was under the impression she had - I guess never assume!) .. So the household is awake and husband drives up the drive to see whose car it is parked off site. They all suspected it was me... All about timing - had the lad not been coming home from work at that exact moment......

Hopefully everyone will understand and forgive me for the 1am wake up ... and I won't lose permission to shoot! (There are rabbits and pigeons to be taken!)

Had much the same once when i was asked to sort out some rabbits the person (land owner) that asked me forgot to tell anyone else on site i was coming then went out for the night, so Mrs land owner was a bit shocked to see an armed bloke walking across the lawn, luckily she recognized me, but she did tell Mr land owner all about the armed intruder, and police armed response, dog team, helicopter etc etc. None of which happened but she thought it would be a good idea to wined him up!
