That new gun smile

A lady at our club has been shooting my 682 gold e for 4 yrs, it's a lefty and she's a righty, and the barrels are 32" and a bit much for her, and it's too long for her, so she has to take her jacket off in the depth of winter to reach the trigger, but she does well with it.

She's finally getting round to applying for her ticket, has a cabinet, and was starting to look around at guns, second hand budget around a grand or so.

I saw a 682 gold e with 30" barrels and a professionally shortened stock for just over a grand advertised, put her dad onto it, and they drove from Essex to the east Midlands last wkd to buy it, on his ticket, today was the first shoot.

She got to the club, we checked the adjustable cheekpiece was at the right height, warned her she may need to get used to it and her score may be less for a while, and she started shooting - 9/10 on the first, and ended up with 39/50, with the biggest smile on her face you could imagine.

Having started her dad off shooting about 6 years ago, and her a little while later, it's so nice to see how she's improved, how her gunhandling is safe and she's become one of the top scorers more often than not. To see the look on her face using her own gun for the first time and dusting clays with it, is supremely satisfying.

Yeah, maybe my gun will last a bit longer now she's not putting 1300 shells per annum through it!

Of course I don't mind, someone helped me get into shooting, and I'm happy to pay it forward, it's just nice that she's through her period of using someone's gun,and is now a gun owner, able to help others into the sport (once her sgc is granted)
