7daysinaweek
am down in tangley wildhern in andover staying in a fantastic rural setting in a bit of a valley surrounded by nothing but greenery. am here for the week, since i have been here seen consistent good amounts of pigeon on numerous flight lines in all directions out from the barn we are staying in. today watched a couple of hundred birds directly outside on a winter wheat recent drilling. went for a walk for a couple of hours and picked up loads of flight lines of 1s,2s,sixes and 8's and birds traveling in all directions. when i came away from liverpool at the begining of the weekend i have not seen numbers like this at this time of year in a long time. i have a couple of permissions that are interspersed by good amounts of woods and similar sowings, wheat , rape etc but not these numbers at this time of year. whilst out on the walk as usual pigeon fever overcomes me and all the other field pursuit fevers descend upon and this is usually much to the disconcernation of my wife. will they ever understand! WelshMike
I have constant pigeon envy when I go to other areas. A couple of years ago I was told off by my wife for spending 5 minutes looking at the 400+ pigeons on a rape field on the edge of Salisbury. I dont think there is enough of an understanding of our "problem" for it to be accepted in a social context
stoxs
must admit i dont often notice pigeons in other areas! Our conservation project of protecting the wood pigeon must be working.
