BrowningB525
I know it's the old Gun fitting chestnut, but I could do with some advice. I am getting my bonus from work next month, and am spending a little of it on myself. I am looking at getting my gun fitted properly, I currently use a beartooth comb raiser as I found that my gun shot low during a lesson/pattern plate session. However, my gunfitting so far has been a case of going to a lesson, getting the fit checked, then making my own changes, really I need a "one stop shop" solution. I have got to the stage where I'm consistently hitting mid 30s to low 40s in a sporting 50, so improving my gunfit and removing the trial and error from my current fitting should hopefully give me a couple more clays. I am looking for a full fitting/instruction then alteration then follow up session. The issue that I am having is that I would like to try to only have two half days off work to facilitate this, which restricts the distances that I cover. I also could do with avoiding having my gun out of action for a weekend, although this can be managed. I ideally want to go to somewhere that'll pattern the gun, before and after and check how it shoots. This rules a lot of places out. I am located near to Leeds west Yorkshire, and all of the "famous" gun fitters that I have found are in the south, which is not ideal when I'll need to make two trips. Does anyone have any recommendations, or are my wishes unrealistic?

malmick
Hi BrowningB525, I've had a Miroku MK70 since January and I'm very much in the same boat as you. I've thought about a visit to the Yorkshire Gun Room just north of Harrogate. I'll be interested in where you go with this thread. Cheers, Mick

They seem to know what they're doing and have the right equipment. However, they are very game gun orientated, and don't fit adjustable combs. At the moment I have about 1/2" of additional comb on my gun, so this has me nervous as that'd require a lot of bending work (that said, that may be too much, hence wanting a proper fitting). I have contacted BK Webster, who do laser fitting, but they are booked up until the end of the year, so won't be taking on any adjustable comb work. I should add, that I don't care too much if it can be done without an adjustable comb, it just seems to be what my proportions need, as when I put my stock to my cheek, my beads line up as opposed to making a figure of 8. Not had any work done but there arron wheeler at brighouse I am after a completer package of patterning and being observed shooting before and after. I assume that rules them out, even if they can do the work. I have spoken to Mike the Gun, but he's all the way in Bournemouth, and it'd require two trips. welshwarrior
Yorkshire Gun room are quite good if you want it fitted with an adjustable comb why not just get a full set of dimension ideally from a try gun and send the stock to someone else to have the comb kit fitted and then set to you measurements? I am not too bothered what they do as long as it fits and doesn't bounce back. I seem to have got it in my head that it'll want tweaking, so am reluctant to have the measuring and stock work done at separate locations.
