I've used .22s on rabbits to about 180yds (yes, I'm just about a good enough shot)

222 maybe but a 22 r/f :good:

I **** yee not, though I must admit it was more a case of aim really high and see what happens the first time, done it a few times now.

In fact, I've just spent the last two hours of daylight whacking them at just over 110 from the other side of the field, 9 again - never made double figures yet :good: lol The rifle's just a standard cz .22 r/f. I used to shoot target rifles for britain, came 4th in the british champs and was well on the way to the c/wealth games until I discovered women  what was I thinking ;)

You've shot rabbits at 180 yards with a .22? Is that a .22wmr? If your mate doesn't have an open ticket, the police will have the land cleared already unless he's being a bad boy. All you need to do is provide a permission letter from the farmer, and you should get a change of condition on your ticket without any trouble. HMR should also be allowed on any land fit for .22lr :good:

I think his is an open ticket unfortunately, though I'll try anyway.

bloody hell mate well done, but then if you used to shoot for britain then not to surprising!

To a certain extent mate, yeah, but a lot of people would consider it irresponsible and I only do it when it's clear I'm really not gonna get any closer. I've still got it tho! lol

IF you've got a steady hand / bipod and you're zeroed at 80 yds, you'll find if you aim about 2.5 feet high you'll nearly always hit. I once got a head shot aiming that high and about the same into a strong wind - very satisfying!

All well and good FW but in reality alot of inexperienced shooters will read your remarks and think they can repeat them .

The reality is IMHO that the .22lr running on £3 a box sub sonic ammo is really a maximum 80 yd rifle .If you want to go sonic then the hmr but then the reality is and again IMHO a 125 yd max rifle and so on .

Perhaps discuss the optics and effort that go's into getting any set up to shoot consistantly accurate for extreme range shots and include also anemnometers ,batch weighing of ammo ,laser rangefinders etc etc !.......All tools of the trade so to speak when the target is a live animal regardless of whether it's a pest or not ..........A large financial investment it is .

But your new on here and if you really wanted to you could'ave got closer :good:

ok, ok, sorry kip, I didn't mean to take over your thread 'Tiz a beutiful piece of kit.

I'd like to point out it's not something I do often and that you've made fair comment. The point I was trying to make is - it IS possible, under the right cercumstances. I can do it with reasonable confidence that I'll make a clean kill so, in my opinion, why shouldn't I now and then if the need arises.

Anyway, I didn't mean to be opening a can of worms here so, please, just let it go. We all have different opinions but we're all on here for a shared love for a certain sport and the last thing I wanted to do was cause ill feeling, for which I apologise.

There is no need to apologise as I can see where your coming from .........like i said it's down to pure experience of your own capabilities but for extreme range your either relying on a lot of luck or have the necessary gear at hand that's all .

Welcome to the forum :D
