just wanted to know what's the general opinion of dog training groups.

do you attend or train your dogs yourself?.

I am attending one at the moment..... but my dog just messes about more often than not and gets too excited he does calm down after say 30 40 mins.

he is far more manageable on his own. I feel a little unsure and a bit on edge when I attend.

I went to a few training groups and found that my nice calm springer became easily distracted, wanting to run off on retrieves and the whole experience was pretty stressful. Since then I've had a few one to one sessions that have been pleasant and productive, it's the time at home that's made the difference though. I've found that I'm noticing my dog's behaviours a lot more, responding and shaping them. He's responding well to this and his overall development seems more natural.

All the best with yours.

Mick

I found group classes are great for early socialisation and basic training.

It then often goes to pot a bit around either side of a year old as the hormones kick in and you have the equivalent of a dog teenager.

They normally settle down again if you persevere.

One to one classes are good for sorting out specific problems you or the dog have.
