  1. Can anyone recommend a speed controller for a while (home made wiper motor. Kind regards Chris
  2. well can I just say I am over the moon with my young lab he is 13 months old. and its his second time flighting duck. first time he saw a duck was at dog training group we attend..... it was on a cold game day.... he wasn't going to pick it at all. I took him duck shooting [just watching no gun]the second time and my mate shot a duck but he just muzzled it but wasn't sure....so duck wings on the dummy a few retrieves hey presto two weeks later yesterday evening he retrieved eight ducks 6 in the water two on the grass in the dark!! well chuffed. and he marked at least three.
  3. just wanted to know what's the general opinion of dog training groups. do you attend or train your dogs yourself?. I am attending one at the moment..... but my dog just messes about more often than not and gets too excited he does calm down after say 30 40 mins. he is far more manageable on his own. I feel a little unsure and a bit on edge when I attend.
  4. I have been trying to find the basc directive on how shooting pigeons over stubbles is worded. a friend of mine says you can only shoot pigeons on stubbles to protect a crop grown at the side of it??. but I was thinking it was more like shooting over stubbles is protecting future crops as there is no other affective way . help
  5. Wanting a lab training dvd halstead way maybe or similar
  6. I was like you undecided about getting a dog and for years I put it off. but bit the bullet and got a lab dog. he is 12 wks old now and it will be a learning curve for both dog and myself. I will be using him for pigeons..... maybe picking up on the shoot if I train him good enough. finding a local breeder is best and better to get from a working strain with field trial champion parents even better...this pup I got was born half trained lol... and there is always some one to have the dog at weekends.... the breeder may offer to have the dog if you mention it... go for it
  7. Yes I think the land is shot over too often now. I had a cracking day on bean stubble a couple of years ago. I cant explain how the other shooters had missed this field? the stubble was two weeeks past harvest when I shot it. last year these guys were nearly fighting each other threatening to do this n that!!!! all over the beans stubbles!!! I used to be able to leave fields and let the birds build up and end up with a decent bag...no chance of that now I dont get out as much now and I think I have got a bit lazy?complacent...... thanks for comments tho lads....yes I seem to have overlooked field craft
  8. his deeks are 30 yrs old lol... and he has army type netting plus his rotor is home made with flocked type deeks and detachable wings ect..... but really well made. but he does have access to some good shooting which helps..... there must be at least half a dozen other lads shootin the permission.... I share
  9. I am thinking of getting all new gear. the last half dozen outings with my gear have been ****.... birds have been spooked and wont commit . I cant decide if its the hide, deeks, or whirly . I sometimes go out shootin with an old mate and we never have a problem with his set up mmmmm? I use shell type flocked deeks & 5 full bodied flocked & whirly slow fast just no good???take it in still no birds.I think will have to go look in me old shootin diary .... back to basics any ideas chaps?

  11. two guys shot 100+ on sat another 2 lads had 58 and we watched another guy decoying them over a rough ploughed field he shot 8 in as many minutes... couldnt bare to watch any longer lol! there were at least 1000 birds in the area. all these birds were in 1 big flock and they were all confined to about 1sq mile. and all the guys shoooting at the same time. we set up just outside the vilage where these birds were say just a mile away and got.............. yes jack s@#t I think its fair to say u gotta be in the right place.

  19. Went out on saturday my other two mates had already set up on decent flight lines. It was decided where the best spot for me was [against my better instinct] ...with a train line behind me I was to set up with the wind in my face which meant any birds would come from behind and hopefully to my left between an old oak 40 yards away. After 15 mins trying to get the hide from blowing inside out.I set up the magnet to my right with a cluster of decoys at the side of the magnet and 1 flapper 2 floaters.right lets see how the birds respond.first the birds didnt like where the magnet was so i had to move it futher out as they were flying round too far out. then the fuse went on the magnet! so replaced that. then the magnet started to rock on the soggy ground so i had to move it on the tyre tracks where the ground was hard and a little further out. right game on!4 hasty shots later no birds. missed!the birds were still not going where i anticipated. so i moved all the deeks and flapper further out and to my right. ok lets see now,... hide net clips blowing off!.grrr then fuse went again.... grrr so wired the magnet direct to the batt. 12 shots 2 hrs later 6 birds the magnet batt died...grrr so brought it in. so fed up I decided to have a cuppa... my flask had leaked all over me sarnis... grrr any how 10 birds for 20 shots and a lesson learnt.. check your gear before shooting and give some thought to your days shooting. I am ordering a new controller and stonger hide clips plus welding longer spikes to my magnet and a new flask! and trust your instinct
