fusion
Can you please give me some advise on purchasing a sound moderator for my Ruger M77mk2 .223. What is the differance between a T8 and a T4 ?, cost,is it worth the expence, and cost of threading barrel etc. Cheers
dunganick
the differnce between t4 and t8, size-> capacity -> weight The t4 is more than enough for .223, however t8 could be used on a larger gun at a later date. Aso the t4 will not fit on many heavy barreled guns. Yes moderators do make a big differnece, you can shoot them comformatbly without ear deffenders. The average sort of cost for a threading and re proofing is £60ish +/- as much as £30 Once you have had a moderated centerfire you will never wish to go back to a non moderated. kip270
Get an A-Tec instead of the Reflex, Tommy Trucker has one and then knock the socks off the other CF mods I'll be changing mine in the near future

Agreed T4 is enough for a .223 but disagree that it won't fit many heavy barrels. What are the different bushes for? T8 could only be used on a larger gun if it was a T8 that was rated for a larger gun. A T8 bored for .22cf couldn't be used on .243, .308 or bigger. There isn't just one T8 You never mentioned the T8AR that is specifically manufactured for .22 CF's (AR15 etc) Threading cost about right but come off it, reproofing could cost as much and isn't actually necessary unless you intend to sell it on. The only things I actually agree on fully is that once using a mod you'll not be without one and that moderators make a difference God how I love half a story Dave PS someone else can tell you about ther reduction in felt recoil

Graham M
I’m honestly thinking about getting rid of mine as I hate the darn thing. It makes the rifle muzzle heavy and unwieldy. And with all that weight on the front end of the barrel it is so unbalanced that it keeps falling backwards as I carry it on my shoulder. Without the mod’ fitted the rifle is nice and light and very pointable. With the mod’ fitted the rifle is heavy, clumsy and bloody awkward to manage especially in a tight space. Wish they made one that only weighed a couple of ounces. G.M.

carbarten77
Have you looked at a PES moderator? Dont rust like some of the T8's.

Dont rust like some of the T8's. i've used a T8 on my .243 for 4 years in all weather and have'nt had any problems with it or rust. i think as long as you keep it oiled and maintained it will be fine, most trouble comes from lack of maintenance like people and there cars. Namely mine, if i had a bush turned down on a t4 to fit my barrel there would be nothing left worth mentioning. I did not mention the different models of t8 as i didnt want to confuse the issue further with different models. its bad enough having to choose which manufactor, not to mention i dont actually have first hand experiance with the t8ar. And i wont recomend on a forum that someone dosent have the gun proofed after threading as it should be at the disgression of the owner or gunsmith doing the work, not mine. I didnt have either of mine proofed after cutting. God how i love being incorrectly corrected There are many area's not detailed in this conversation, maintainance, corrosion problems with some makes, gas cutting, blah blah blah.... End of the day T4/8.... etc... is the basic model moderator, it gets the job done for less than other mods, and its not a bad place to start.
