If you can show good reason to possess another gun in the same calibre, then yes, the police should issue you with a variation for it. The rumours you allude to appear to be linked to the proposed EU tightening of laws to outlaw semi auto rifles (including .22LR) which resemble assault rifles following the Paris attacks but as said above, if you can provide good reason there's no reason for you not having more than one semi auto LR on your ticket.
