kent
Looking at getting a more open choke in an extended type It's for ducking over decoys with steel Most of my shooting is with a kicks high flier in modified but it's a tad too tight close up For a Winchester sx3 Ported preferably
figgy
How close in are the ducks your shooting at? The Kicks Highflyer Modified is only a 1/4 choke in normal terms but modified/1/2 choke for steel. A standard 1/2 choke is full for steel shot If the ducks or teal are close I'd use steel 5 shot in lighter pay loads. Pattern some at the distances your shooting over the decoys with the Kicks and then you will see what carts are best. Sometimes even a cylinder choke will throw tight patterns at close targets. After more open patterns at close range a spreader choke is probably your best option. They spin the shot and wad and open it out apparently. Wingman
Ported are a waste of money makes no difference to pattern or recoil and a ****** to clean, I have them and regret buying. Go for Teagues extended or briley but IMHO I would avoid the ported ones.
Wingman
Be interested to see what experience others have of ported chokes though. Edited February 2, 2016 by Wingman
kent
I have used a modified kicks for quite a few seasons spent a lot of different shells through it on ducks n geese and also pattern resting it prints tight patterns beyond the ranges were the shot has adequate energy left I like ported it does help muzzle rise even if it quickens the dogs loss of hearing Might well go for another aftermarket non ported though and pick up a clay shooter type one as the rest of the world seem convinced they ain't got enough choke Want extended I can change toolless though
figgy
Carlsons do a three choke set, they get good reviews on the USA wildfowlers forums.
