Foam Decoys

This is my first attempt at making foam decoys 2 widgeon, the trickiest part is the head and trying to blend it to the body, the ones in the picture have still to sprayed in matt clear coat to dull them down a bit.

Shop bought plastic decoys weigh 350 grams but the foam ones only weigh 180 grams, so that is a big advantage or carrying them to the shore.

They look good enough to pull birds, but it would be interesting to know how they work in the wind and a chop.

Very impressive! Would love to know your method :good:

The method is easy i just followed the instructions on these you tube videos

They do look very good. I think you might lose the tufts on the 'tufty' though. I'd make them without.

I could'nt resist adding the tufts, i raided my flytying kit for some black hackles

Nice one :good:

Your very skilled! I think I could manage the body but I'd fail on the heads!!

There was a bit of cheating going on with the heads, some of them were carved from foam,i have recently made a mould off a shop decoy and cast them in either foam or resin, i will get some pics of the heads and put them up.

You can buy premade heads in the USA but they dont seem to ship to the uk, so i made my own :good:

Here is a site that does the heads but i dont think they will ship over here
