what should i expect to pay for a pcp?

i was looking into possibly aquiring a PCP air rifle in the not too distant future, (after i have recovered financially from buying a new .22lr!) and i was wondering how much i will end up spending for a pcp and charging equipment. other questions include: is buying second hand a good idea?; is it worth getting an FAC version, i would want to shoot it in a 3.5 acre garden as well as fields; pump or air bubble; and of coarse, the never ending question, .177 or .22, especially if i went down the FAC route.

any help gratefully recieved

buy my daystate, £600!! lol.

All them questions depend on what it will be used for. Do you need FAC (I would say that a non FAC air rifle would be more than adequate of a 3.5 acre garden. You shooting quarry I'm assuming. the all .177 and .22 debate will always be on and it is personal preference. I prefer .177 because of the flatter trajectory and accuracy. If you can put the pellet where it should be then it doesn't matter about .177 and .22 as they will both do the same job. I payed £150 for my charging gear. a 3 litre 300 bar with all adaptors etc. Hope this helps :good:

If it's FAC you won't see many .177, at something under 20fpe the pellet is supersonic and tumbles, so FAC is usually .22 all the way (though .20 and .25 are useful choices at FAC power).

Some people use pumps and swear by them, I wouldn't waste my time, just get a 300bar divers bottle and have done with it.

All in price new, well, what do you want to spend? You could easily do £1500 for mid range rifle, reasonable scope and bits and bobs.

Second hand I have seen people flog say .22 s410 with tank combos for less than £500 on occasion.

Happy hunting, no pun intentional :good:

FAC then you want a .22 (as the trajectory of the .22 becomes much better with an extra 15tlbs behind it!), non fac .177 (for reasons cyber stated). As for buying one new, min of £250 (aa S200) + £100ish (for silencer, scope and mounts) Pump is easier when you have limited shot capacity as more portable so can be taken shooting with you. Bottle easier if you are just in your garden. Personally I have a non fac lightning and am considering trading it in or upgrading to a FAC PCP, simply as I want the extra power for field shooting and 2nd hand PCP's are often cheaper as FAC than standard. The only problem with the FAC is whether you would get clearance to shoot in your backgarden, depends on backstops and reasoning. However, I am going to foresake plinking in the garden for a more effective FAC weapon when shooting in the field where (80% of my shooting is done).

Its up to you, although if you already have the .22 rf then will you use the FAC air gun as in comparision the range will be probably slightly less!?? THe only major advantage i could see if you already own the .22lr is the fact you will get a lot less (if any) riochets with the air rifle compared to the .22lr. Well and the fact the ammo is cheaper but then if you are paying to refill a bottle....

Hope that helps,

Dan
