Gully
Million Dollar Pigeon Highlight Monday 30 April 9:00pm - 10:00pm BBC2 "I love pigeons," says Richard, standing in a shed with an example of said bird perched on his shoulder. "And pigeons," he adds, "love me." Richard gazes fondly at the pigeon. And the pigeon, in turn, pecks at Richard's head. It's a scene that encapsulates the unique relationship that exists between pigeon and pigeon fancier: while the latter devotes his heart, time and wallet to the creature, the former responds by losing competitions and violently attacking its owner's cranium. But, as this wonderful little film attests, the curious symbiosis between man and bird can inspire extraordinary allegiance. Here, we follow Richard and fellow enthusiasts as their beloved pets compete in South Africa's prestigious Million Dollar Pigeon Race. Peppered with bittersweet comic vignettes, this is as warm and tender as a documentary that includes several lingering shots of bird poo can be. Andy75
Does it make it a hollow wooden noise on the cranium as it pecks? Oh well - different strokes for different folks
