red_stag88
Do rubber eggs work as a sort of decoy for magpies? Cheers, Red.
tody27
Yes, If you put them in a make shift nest or at the bottom of a hedge row they work well. Cracked chinken eggs also work well. tody
Deako
probably, but why not just use real ones? much cheaper.
red_stag88
I, as I have said before, take the bear minimum of stuff and often do alot off moving. I don't want cracked, raw egg on my cloaths. Plus it might be nice to try put them in a wide ride off a wood, and shoot maggies out of the highseat when the rabbits/squirtles dont show. bigdev
Last year while doing a bit of vermin control for the gamekeeper! i painted a few stones white, which where the shape of eggs and put them in the larsen traps and they worked no problem, until i got the real thing ! haha
Deako
red, Hard-boiled eggs are guaranteed not to ruin your clothes, the birds can't tell the difference, and you can eat them with a pinch of salt when you have finshed. Hey, that was a really great tip, and I thought of it all by myself!
red_stag88
Thats a good idea Deako, I'll give it a whirl.
Rob_88
I have found that making a nest inthe bottom of the trap and using old halfs of egg shells usuall works well, you place the egg shell in the nest and you can make them look real. Worked for me anyway.
TROUT POUT
Could you build a decoy nest in a hedgerow in magpie territory and put chicken eggs in every week until breeding season. So the magpies realise this is a good source of food, so when you return in a few weeks you set up a hide replace the eggs (hopefully) then hide and wait for the little *****rds Well its an idea

Catamong
TP, The maggies will see your hide and shy away before you have even seen them - far better to use a Larsen trap to catch them - but don't start before the end of March - they're not really effective until then.
