SimpleSimon
Hi folks, The Speedo on the wife's Fusion (2003 1.6 petrol) has packed up. Local garage have replaced the sensor, but the speedo still doesn't work. They've suggested it's a problem with the ECU (but despite having the car for two whole days they, in their own words, didn't get around to looking at the ECU). Has anybody had this problem with the fiesta/fusion. Google reveals lots of ECU faults on Ford but I gave up looking in the end...
Cannon
It seems that the cause of the fault depends on whether the car is fitted with ABS or not. If it's fitted with ABS then the ABS module may be the cause of the issue. No ABS means that the engine ECU is likely to be the cause. There are reports that the gearbox mounted vehicle speed sensors become faulty, or the reluctor rings on the drive shafts. Both are cheap and easy fixes. Did you get a copy of the fault codes from the diagnostic check? All hope is not lost if it is the ECU. There are specialist companies based in the uk that do nothing but repair ECU's and electronic modules. The cost of repair varies, but I wouldn't expect to pay any more than £200.
