ChrisPCarter
I just got a used Stealth Mossberg M500 410 from York Guns. I had presumed this was a rebranded Hushpower but having emailed Saddlery and Gunroom about a couple of things I've been told it's not one of theirs and is a copy that York Guns do. Anyone else got one? It looks identical from what I can see. I got the wooden stock as it seemed to be longer and as it was an ex demo it was cheaper. Only got it yesterday so I haven't shot it or stripped it down to have a look inside. From their website: "A moderated version of the Mossberg M500. Our STEALTH moderators are machined from one piece of high grade aluminium giving superior noise attenuation. Available in both Wood and Synthetic, please check at time of enquiry which is in stock. The only shotgun moderator for use with BOTH Fibre and Plastic wad!" Chris.
mick miller
I had the York guns single shot Stealth. Their version of the single shot hush power. Now, although it did moderate the noise I never felt it was quite as good as the saddlery and gun room version I had shot a year previously. It didn't appear to be as well moderated, but on stripping it I can't really say that there appeared to be much difference between them. So, I'm afraid, inconclusive. They look almost the same but I just felt the Hushpower, from memory, was a little better moderated. Dasher
Do Stealth guns have ported barrels like the Hushpowers? I know my single .410 Husher does.

I presumed it was the same as there seems to be no difference to look at. I took the end off the moderator and it looks pretty similar but I couldn't unscrew the whole tube to inspect the barrel so I wondered if that is fixed? I put a single 2.5" Eley FourLong through it tonight expecting it to be fairly quiet and was quite shocked at the bang! I was next to a building so maybe that made a difference but even so, i wouldn't have said it was a great deal quieter than my other 410. I've ordered some Lyalvale Magnasonic 3" 17gr #5 fibre subsonics to try in it so will give it a proper try later in the week. Anyone tried these cartridges? I haven't read much about them anywhere. I've only used Eley 2.5" and 3" magnums before, not subsonics but these were a available locally and a bit cheaper then Eley's.
ChrisPCarter
Do Stealth guns have ported barrels like the Hushpowers? I know my single .410 Husher does. I will have another look at it tonight but the barrel section seemed to be fixed into the moderator and it appeared to have baffles coming to the end of the barrel inside the tube so I couldn't see much. I thought the moderator tube would screw off at the bush but if it does it's very very tight?
ChrisPCarter
Does anyone know of a good place to look for Mossberg 500 410 parts? I quite fancy changing the stock and forend to camo or green and getting some sling swivels etc Had a quick search and found plenty of 12 gauge bits but not 410. Anyway, I'll see how it's shoots/sounds first.
Rst1990
Eley forlong is the quietest cartridge that I have put through my hushpower, it really is like a air rifle sound. Perhaps the building may have bounced the sound. Try shooting in the air and see? In mine there is no real difference of sound between subs and normal volicity carts
ChrisPCarter
Yes I've read a lot of people on here saying the fourlongs are the quietest. I've got a couple of boxes of them and a box of 3" magnums that I'll try against the subsonics when they arrive. I'll get someone to have a listen to them a few yards away and see what they think. I guess if you can get a 3" magnum with extra lead that sounds like the smaller fourlong for about the same price then it's got to be good. I'm hopefully going pigeon shooting later in the week so I'll take it along and see how I get on with it. It's mainly for pest control but the pigeons will be a good test. Dasher
Stick with Eley #7 Fourlongs for the most effective moderated cartridge.
ChrisPCarter
I tried it in open country and with some subsonic cartridges and it was much more quiet. I shot a few clays with it to get my eye in and it's not bad at all. Took a couple of pigeons with it too. I really like the pump action on this when I've never really liked a pump 12! ChrisPCarter
Unfortunately I'm going to have to sell this as I have a huge repair bill for my Jeep. The ECU has failed and it's not cheap :( I'll get another in a couple of months though. It was only bought last week as an ex demo model from York Guns so it's in great condition. I'll list it on here so keep an eye out if you are interested. Edited March 18, 2016 by ChrisPCarter
