hodge911
I,m getting the stuff together to have a go at building a spotter and have a question for those of you that have already done them what lens do you use ? and do you leave the small lens that comes with the e700 camera on or do you remove it the rest is pretty straight forward
Alpha Mule
Mine came with a 16mm They reckon that it gives about the same magnification as a #1 eyeball
FalconFN
It depends on the build and how much tinkering you want to do. The ideal spotter lens is 50mm which gives around x3-4 mag (very approximately), and one with a large aperture (f1.4 or there abouts) but these will require a system to mount them in front of the sensor. The little screw-in board lenses that come with the cameras are OK but a 16mm will not give any magnification and be pretty poor at transmitting light (IR), but the advantage of them us that you don't need to add different lens mounts. The simplest way to get a better lens is to unscrew the board lens and then screw in an M12 to c-mount adapter (£5-6), you can then add a c mount 50 mm f1.4 lens (about £20-25). Sean100uk
dont forget you will need to cut about 6mm from the camera housing then insert the adapter and lens
hodge911
dont forget you will need to cut about 6mm from the camera housing then insert the adapter and lens thanks for input mate but may I ask why shorten the housing ? I am not in anyway doubting it needs to be done but having never done anything like this before I would like to know why it needs doing hodge
Sean100uk
On most of the lens I have used if you don't shorten it you won't be able to fully focus the lens
