TDS
Nikko steel is the same as Winchester proof steel on the 101s , it means grade of steel for barrel manufacture.. .both made in Japan by Olin Kodensha in the same factory from many of the same parts And no , they are not proofed for steel shot , but they are perfectly capable of doing so as long as you use 1/2 choke at the tightest With skeet chokes you will be ok. moztoyota
brilliant! thanks for the info,so there is no chance of ruining the barrels with steel carts then? i will be using 24g carts and the barrels are both cylinder. TDS
Will be fine...you are perfectly ok with steel
Scully
As TDS has stated above; perfectly fine. It isn't the 'steel proof' of a barrel which prevents it being ruined by steel shot; it is the wad which contains the steel shot. If the steel shot leaves the wad even on a 'steel proofed' barrel, before the wad leaves the muzzle, then the barrel can/will be scored. Steel proof relates to pressure only. I used Gamebore Super Steel 4's ( which are HP as far as I'm aware ) through an old 101 of mine for years with no ill effects, through chokes no tighter than half.
