i cant control my dogs

Recommended Posts

hi there you lot, have bin told that when in need of advice about dogs this is the place 2 be. from the beginning - we were bought a lab retriever pup for xmas, all was going well until march when my partner bought home a 1 yr old boxer. within a few days we found out why they got rid of him 2 start with. he's so stuborn, wont do anything asked of him, he rags washing from the line, destroyed the garden n he likes 2 chew, my partner thought he could solve this problem by telling him off n then giving him a biscuit or 2 or 3! The result of this being the lab pup now behaves like the boxer! my partner n i split up recently n he gave me a choice - take on his dog or he dumps him at the pdsa, he might b a stress but i cudn't let him go (the dog that is). i want 2 keep both dogs - can any one help me 2 sort them out?

Hello put the foot down & make it listen your way or hard way they soon learn you need to be master.Say it once & if ignored get hold & reinforce & make them do it.Dont feed to train no.no & maybe try a gundog trainer for help if stuggling or someone you know & you think has good's dog's try them.Boxer's can take about 4yrs to mature persnoally i would get rid till you have experiance to handle another as it look's your lab is going to go down hill unless you get on top of problem's.

BD,

Boxers are such clowns, they also have no quams about ruling the roost. As has been mentioned they have a puppy mentality until they are around 4 years, this does not mean that you can not make him into a respectable companion in the mean time. The problem with having two young dogs is that they feed off of each other, and instead of learnng good behaviour they have a tendancy to be like kids and get into trouble.

To start with are the dogs crate trained?

lets have a list of all the Bad things each dog does, and all they good things they dont do. We can then find a starting point that will let you build the dogs you want.

thanx 4 all advice given so far, NTTF you asked 4 a list of good n bad habits of each dog. i think i'm gonna have 2 go bak 2 basics with these 2!

Chanel - the lab, she's no longer completely h/trained, she chews anything she can get her teeth in2, when we have visitors she now nips them when greeting them - this was never a problem b4 Layson came along its like she does it 4 the attention, and shes started chasing the cat. on the good side when on her own she will do as shes told sit, stay n come with a bit of encouragement, all training 2 the whistle has gone out the window tho.

Layson - the boxer, another chewer, major digger, destroys all plants, hates washing on the line, terrorizes my cat n barks all the time. the fence panels in my garden are a complete mess where he keeps trying 2 get out! i came home 1 day 2 find a boxer bodyline in the fence panel n him next door ragging there plants out there pots. He gets very jealous of Chanel 2. on the good side he's h/trained n will sit when told.

My back garden is split level slabbed top n grass bottom, im trying 2 keep the dogs up the top so the kids can have a clean place 2 play, ive managed 2 keep Chanel up the top but Layson jst jumps straight over the walls, if i could get him 2 stay up the top it would solve half my problems.

I was desperate enough 2 try my dads collar once it lasted about half n hour b4 Chanel tryed chewing it off him
