ff5 flapper battery

I run flappers on 7 amp lead acid batteries which keeps them going for 5 to 6 hours without any problem, the motors are quite small and draw very little current, the battery is small and only weighs 2.5 kilos

If you are planning on getting a magnet later on the 14 amp will cope easily for 5 or 6 hours on the larger motor .

I have two 7 amp motorcycle batteries bought new from eBay and two 14 amp gell packs from electric golf trolley's, both bought at car boot sales complete with trolley's for less than £15 each.the batteries come with canvass carry bags and last longer than lead acid, but the down side is they weigh around 7 kilos each.

But I always have at least one of each fully charged and ready to go,always worth it when the birds are about in numbers.:yes:

I had a pinewood pigeon magnet. Awesome but it died after many years of service. Got a new motor but it was from the people who took over. It was not the same and noisey. He said i had fitted it incorrectly???. How hard can it be i am an engineer who works to microns so no its just noisey even on its own. It did not last cheap chinese motor that i could of bought for 8 quid

So i was ****** and decided i would make a magnet myself. I have tried about 12 motors but none seem to last as well as the pinewood original one which was made in japan(numbers worn off sticker so cant get the same one)

I have made some good magnets and they have new ideas and stand field abuse but the motors are poor

I am working on a different design but the motor is the key. How hard can it be to get a quality 43 rpm geared motor. The rest is easy with a bit of machine work and some aluminium tube and solid bar

I will make some super machines once i find motors and they will be ace. They will look like pinewood ones but will be different inside with only quality parts. I dont do rubbish only the motors let it down. They all work but dont last especially if the battery is going flat it kills the motors due to high resistance. Might try an 18 volt battery

All this has put me off decoying and i have shot more in a year on average with my fac air rifle. Its a new way of doing things with static decoys. They need to land and you have to know your ranges

Yes i have had big days with a shotgun but some air rifle days have been in the 120 bird sector

I really enjoy it to be honest. All you need is a tree of death lol (dead tree not many leaves) and perhaps a few decoys close too and they usually land in the tree for a perfect shot

Today 28 jackdaws and 5 crows at a farm crying for help. Hard to see in fog but not a bad day and shots all at 72 to 89 yards. Just sitting in the vehicle which they know but the fog seems to make you invisible to their eyes, well almost

So thats it really. Find me some decent 43 or 48 rpm motors that are quality. Ive tried about 12 makes and types but i am not happy with them. A new motor is from 4 to 20 pounds which is not a lot but who can be bothered to keep swapping it when it gets slow

Wiper motor ones i have made for friends but the battery time is short . they are like me and go for the day and i aint lugging no car batteries around as those days are gone

Car window motor worked well but looked ugly and was not much better for battery life

I will sort it i just have little time to search the net as i have asked most anyway

Happy shooting

hi gwgong

im an electronics engineer, with some mech background i was goin to make one but i bought on cheap. so didnt bother.

my thoughts were to go the route of a stepper motor. they are silent low current but they will need some electronics to drive them.

so positives they are light low current silent easily controllable in term of speed

negatives need driver electronics but these are relatively cheap. will look into it if you like
