Konnie
To what hight did you top it, as this will be the first year i top mine 2018, sounds as if i'm one year behind you. As yours this year 2nd year chicory out competed weeds. Do you think you will be able to pull it back next year, as I am hoping for another couple of seasons, saving on tractor costs. It was topped close to the ground. We should have sprayed off the grasses at that point then given it some fertiliser when it emerged, but the farmer has no equipment of his own so it never happened. I am really surprised it is so bad this year after being so vigorous last year, it was also broadcast to very dense. Either we will try and rescue it next spring by doing what we should have done this spring, or ask to get some fresh ground and start again. Konnie
Just put some rides in my 2nd year chicory was drilled with a paddock drill (same effect as broadcast) it's what I would consider thick. Now I would like to know what height to top it at come the end of the season, I would presume it is topped after the last frost of the year. Had a look on tinternet and found no management info just how good it is !!!!!
