winnie&bezza
get what you really want, don't spare a thought about it getting nicked or damaged. axminster do some lie Nielsen copies called rider planes, they look ok but i haven't tried one to compare. otherwise try the car boots etc, I picked up a really nice old Stanley No51/2 plane for a fiver when I was replacing all the stolen gear, it was covered in paint and the handle was broken but it cleaned up a treat, I made a new handle and it's so much nicer than the newer stuff, no grinding marks in the body, the blade stays put and holds its edge. That's the talk! Yes I've looked at those but they don't appeal to me for some reason. I keep meaning to go to a car boot to see if I can find some nice old tools but never seem to actually go. I've bought older Stanley planes and older chisels off fleabay as I love the old stuff. For something a little bit special you could get one from the very last batch from Karl Holtey. http://www.holteyplanes.com Plane porn but ridiculous prices! grrclark
how long before you ran out of wood and started on the kitchen table? I remember trying to "tidy up" the dining table when I was an apprentice, it was considerably thinner by the time i'd finished could make it a really interesting feature in being able to backlight it. Shave it so thin that the light shines through to highlight the grain
Kalahari
A lot of older tools turn up at auctions, and fetch very little money. David.
