14Supersport04
The cocking rod on my O/U has just started to rattle. My question is, is the gun still safe to fire and would firing the gun make the problem worse? The gun does still cock but it's annoying that there is a rattle every time i mount the gun. armourer103
'cocking rods' are normally under permenant tension you need to have it looked at, it could be a number of things,
JohnfromUK
Do you mean when the barrels and forend are separated from the action an the locks are cocked? I think it depends on the action design. My Beretta S57 has the cocking rods sprung lightly, so that they always sit 'forward' when the barrels and forend are removed - they can be pushed back with finger pressure easily (assuming the locks are cocked). On the other hand, my SO Beretta they drop backwards or forwards as the action is tilted. In both cases with the barrels and forend fitted I an unable to see, but assume the SO still has movement because if not - it would suggest the cocking rods were in compression (i.e. pushing the action cocked) - and so it could not fire. .
