Thanks for the replies, i have sorted it out now. I also got the cocking rods mixed up with the cocking limb.

The cocking rod on my O/U has just started to rattle. My question is, is the gun still safe to fire and would firing the gun make the problem worse? The gun does still cock but it's annoying that there is a rattle every time i mount the gun. Thanks

A long time ago my ex neighbours had a german shepherd it hadnt been properly trained or socialised, they knew it was aggressive and lots of people locally knew the dog was aggressive. It tried to attack a few people and a couple of times it managed to nip people, no one reprted it. The owners didn't take the necessary precautions and it charged, knocked down and then bit an old man very badly. The whole thing could have been prevented if the dog/owner had been reported.

For 1k you can get a second hand Browning, Miroku or Beretta and plenty of these are left handed.

If you want an O/U then i would get either a lanber or a bettinsoli but if you want a sxs then try and find a good condition AyA no.4. I have a bettinsoli diamond made in 2007 and it cost £500, before i brought it i had only ever shot beretta, browning, miroku and guerini but imo the bettinsoli shoots just as well as the big brands.

I would have many seasons shooting at the big high bird shoots in the west, wales and yorkshire as well as having my own small shoot where i could host my family and friends.

Rachel Carrie put this on her facebook, it is jodie Marsh confronting her confused fans after they showed thier lack of education on the matter.

Jodie seems to have defended hunting on social media and made it clear to her fans that hunting is both humane and required for crop protection etc....

Personally i would use 36 gram 3 as a minimum although im sure 30 gram 6 in the right place at 20 yards would do the job just fine.

The sauer 202 takedown goes up to .458 and isn't to expensive compared to the traditional English makers. Westley richards make a seriously good bolt action rifle that can come in a takedown format but it costs about £20,000. I wouldnt go larger than .458 for a bolt action or straight pull rifle, if you want something bigger such as .470 or .500 i would go for a double rifle. May i also suggest that you get a rifle with open sights just in case you find yourself in thick cover with an angry buffalo trying to kill you. The purdey side by side self opening sidelock ejector, for me the most iconic sporting gun of all time.

In the video clip on the bbc website the woman from LACS says something along the lines of the "hounds don't instinctively want to hunt and kill the foxes and have to be trained". Is she right? I always thought it was the hounds instinct to do so as lots of dogs i know will chase fox and deer and if they catch them they will kill them. I have always loved hunting with hounds (foxhounds in particular) because i love seeing animals doing what they were bred for.

http://www.williampowell.com/The-Linhope.htm This would definitely take the punishment of heavy cartridges on big bag high bird days. If only they did one with a straight stock and a concave rib... On the other hand, nothing beats a good quality english boxlock or sidelock
