Arthritis or some sort of sprain?

Hi All

My 7 and 1/2 German Shepard/ Lab cross has started favouring her left front leg when she walks. Its worse when she has been sleeping/ lieing about in the lounge but on walks she walks a lot better once she gets going and after a bit is almost walking normally. I cant see any damage to her pad or foot and she is bright in herself eating normally and as bouncy as usual.

I cant get her up the vet until next week but in the mean time any advice from the learned Pigeon Watch massive?

Cheers Zetter

Had the identical problem but it was the ESS's back leg. Took her to the vet for a different reason as well. He didn't want to dose her up with two treatments at once so kept an eye on the leg while the other problem was cured. Bit of a worry, though. Kept her on the lead for a couple of weeks and then changed our walking location to where she could run a bit without chasing the squirrels. All was well. Couple of weeks back we went on to Dartmoor and having checked for stock - sheep and ponies - before going through the gate, I let her go. Ballistic is the word I'm looking for, along with swimming in the river. I thought we might be in trouble when she got up from a nap later in the evening, but nothing. Put it down to a sprain - particularly in the cold weather when going flat out from a standing start. Shes's 8.
