getthegat
Hi folks, anyone out there put any heavy load shells through a moderated 20 gauge Hushpower? I have this weird little rough shoot that is always an unknown quantity with lots of short trees, scrub areas and big bushes, and various fields around it with anything from peas, to wheat or beans and I think even lupins this year, all of which I don't have permission for (yet....ever hopeful) It's a couple of acres in size I guess and this morning through up a surprise when I discovered it has foxes on it! Woohoo!. Trouble is, because of it's location, I can only use my moderated 20 bore and I reckon 30grm 5 shot may not take down Mr Foxey. So how big a load can a moderated take and what loads are readily available? I know these weapons won't take steel shot (so no estuary forays for me) but how big av shot has anybody used? Cheers guys
Guest cookoff013
Forget 30g #5. Find 36-32g load, use #2 in lead. Or even bb. You'll get full patterns with any choke.
motty
A 30gm load of no.5 will happily put a fox to sleep.
Guest cookoff013
Are we talking subsonics? Through a moderated gun?
getthegat
Doesn't need to be subsonics. Just want to be sure what ever I use will not damage the gun, but will be sufficient to drop the fox. I don't like the thought of injuring an animal of this size and it running off to die. Thanks for all the replies so far. Any thoughts on Fiocchi cartridges? Cheers guys I would speak to the people who make them, ( Sadlery and gun room) they are probably best to advise safe/shot/size etc
getthegat
So I spoke to Sadlery & Gunroom and as always they were most helpful. Basically I can bang anything through the moderated as long as it's lead, even a slug" So I've gone for 35 grm #2s. Hoping to get some fox action very soon. Cheers again for your input
