Ferret664
Hi fished yesterday and notice there was a lot of algae in the water on one side of the reservoir does anyone have any tips for fishing in algae ? Can the fish see the flies in it or do they feed ? Other side of the reservoir was gin clear and still couldn't catch a fish hahaha but just curious. Could have just been one of the days other anglers were having success out in the middle so not sure ? tomaddy525
The fish will tend to hold just along the fringe of the algae - clean water boundary. Masses of food available for them there so if you can keep your flies parallel to this zone you should be right amongst them. Remember the downwind shore is where all the muck ends up, but its also where all the food and therefore fish end up.
Westley
I occasionally fish a lake that suffers this problem, as the weather warms up. I find more success using either flies or nymphs with some fluorescent orange or green as a tail or a head. Floss tails on the flies and plastic beads for the heads of nymphs work well for me.
