paulr
I have done a small amount of shooting in the past, and am now looking at buying an air rifle to use. I was told the crossman rabbit catcher was good but i've seen alot of bad reviews of it on here. can you advise me what to look for? I want it to shoot pigeons mainly (not from a huge distance) but would be nice if i could also use it for rabbits too as my friend goes lamping with his. i dont mind buying second hand but have no real idea of what to keep an eye out for or how much to pay for it. and last but not least I want to pay as little as possible as i am a student and am poor. any advise would be good thank you paul
BSA Shaun
First things first you want to be looking at shooting around 30 yards as a 'given'. OK, there are many cheap rifles out there but your money will be wasted. You need to be looking at a second hand BSA or Weirauch - my choice being springers. YOu could look for an AAs200 too as they go pretty reasonably s/h. and
Oly
Weihrauch is an excellent make, and have been around for some time. So I may suggest looking for an older model which would still be very good with parts easily attainable and nice easy springer action. Congrats on your first post by the way & welcome. ShaggyRS6
Also if you have some spare cash get a copy of Total Airguns by Pete Wadeson. Excellent book.
naddan28
brill book lots of info on basically everything air gun related! Also good advice on the guns second hand lightning or HW springer is the way to go, unless you can get a decent PCP like a aaS200! As for calibres, I would reccomend (on the basis range finding is easier with a flatter traj) going for the .177 although I brought a .22 as the gun was cheap 2nd hand. Either way make sure you punch some paper first and then move onto quarry! Dan
