deny essex
Took a look at one of my small local farms yesterday afternoon. Nothing hitting the pea's , and a tads too early for the barley, nothing on the 3rd year lucerne but a few were getting on this years sown lucerne, AKA Alfalfa. I know the weeds cannot be sprayed off for the 1st year of this crop so guessing they were either on the crop or the weeds . On checking it looks like they have been feeding on last seasons very sparce self sown rape . I set up in a narrow ditch which is never a comfortable place as far as I was concerned but the best available and the wind was not too favourable for the position where the birds had been feeding but needs be where the birds want. No rotary just 15 plastic shell decoys placed near and around the rape plants, birds started to decoy before I had finished getting settled. After a long winter layoff and very little shooting plus not being comfortable in the ditch ( my excuse) I shot like a numpty but ended up with 12 for the pot . So maybe worth a check on possible self sown rape if you have any. Edited June 12, 2017 by deny essex

marsh man
Nice little afternoon denny Essex and a dozen pigeons is not bad going on Lucerne at this time of the year . I have shot some good bags on Lucerne in the past , although at the time there wasn't the volume of rape grown then and the pigeons had less choice where to get a meal . Sadly it haven't been grown for a number of years now around the farms I go on and I doubt it will be grown again in the near future . GOOD LUCK on your Peas in the coming weeks .
