410 fibre wads

Recommended Posts

Firstly can I say how impressed I was with my recent first dealings with Folkestone Engineering and my order for reloading stuff for my 410. Spot on, very friendly, helpful and only 15 minutes late in meeting up with me on the A1 to deliver.

Superb.

OK reloading results from those supplies, using their reloading data and the GAEP spinner.

I carefully weighed every load of powder on the scales, then inserted the over powder card and felt wad with the Mec 600 ... the card and wad will feed easily together .... poured in the shot 19grms #7 ... and then crimped and finished with the spinner. Took a couple of goes with that to just find the perfect pressure .... very little needed in fact and the result was some smart looking reloads.

Next up was to set up the back board at 35 measured yrds and fire one of these reloads, check pattern and also penetration. So I folded a weeks worth of newspapers into a one inch thick wad about a foot square and soaked it for about three hours in a bucket of water. I then fixed this to the back board with a fresh sheet of card infront.

Fired a shot from the full choke barrel on my Yilditz O/U and inspected the result. VERY concentrated pattern in the centre, in fact the majority of pellets where in a 24 inch circle and the penetration was first class with a large proportion making it all the way through and the others just a sheet or two from doing the same.

If I do my bit then these should work well. I hope to get out on the rape stubbles in the next week or so for some pigeons, so will give them a field test.
