Smiler23
Just found an old rhino 10 bore shell, primer had failed and it's rusted to hell, iv just took it apart and was wondering if any of you kids knew what powder it is in there? Cheers
widgeon man
We will never know sadly. Almost certainly a A380 series powder. But it's not for sure it's either A380 or 381.... they will have huge tubs and it be a blend they have worked the load too. Only thing you can do is copy load using A steel and send for proof. My guess is you won't be far off.... but it would need checking for pressure. Might be running a touch high?? But never cut open a rhino cart
Smiler23
Cheers for reply wigeon man, it actually looks like alliant steel... Flakes maybe a little smaller if anything, but that's not a definite ... couldn't tell if same colour (I'm as colour blind as hell). They were a good shell the rhinos when available
widgeon man
Allianz steel is a A380 type powder. But steel is the powder graded for sale to homeloaders............ The powder gamebore use maybe different although it looks the same. If you ever ripped open a gamebore 3" you would think it's steel powder it is not! ...... more like 356. Lot hotter and smaller grain required for weight load in comparison.
figgy
Isn't there a way to burn a certain amount of powder like in a chamber or pressure vessel and find out how much gas it gives off and the pressure it reaches without need of the proof house. You could then replicate using different powders to achieve the same results.
