weejohn
I went out last night to have a wee shot with the rifle to see how it shoots after floating the barrel the other night. the gun is a tikka t3 lite in 22-250 and the groups were shot at 100 yds. First group was with the remington accutip 50g, 2nd and 3rd groups were with federal varmint hollow points in 40g and travel at 4000fps.The 2nd group was just to see how accurate the bullets were 1st then a single shot to see where my adjustments moved the aimpoint to and then my final group of 3 shots when scope was finally adjusted.I had bought the federals last week and after trying to zero the rifle the groups were around the 2" mark so i thought i would try and float the barrel to see what would happen and now i am quite chuffed. How do you think the 40g bullets would perform on charlie compared to the accutips in 50g? and do you think i could shrink the group further if i started reloading? as i do fancy having a shot at it.I reckon the federal group could of been slightly smaller but my head was been eaten by midges on the last shot which is slightly to the right in the 3rd group.Cant wait to see how i get on with the federal ballistic tips in 40g, they shoot really hot at 4150fps, but will need to wait till borders gunroom gets them. weejohn
good grouping with factory loads. as for which is best for fox. I'm not that experienced but i would say either as long as its on the nail. i did think they were quite good groups, but what amazes me is the speed of the wee 40g bullet. Its hard to imagine using the same weight of bullet for a 22-250 as a 22lr. The gunshop dont stock the 40g in b,tips so i think i will need to order some
pin
Excellent groups I don't reload, but I am researching it all right now, I must have watched 15 DVD's, some 10 times or more... You certainly will get better results reloading, it's all about consistency. Once you find the ideal bullet weight and the case, primer and powder which suit your barrel you will tighten those up no end. As for the fox question, I can't see there being any difference really, both extremely dead
weejohn
Thanks pin, what i did notice on the federal cases was that the seating depth on just about all bullets were different, not just a small fraction but a lot.You will need to keep us posted on how you get on with the reloading
