NorfolkBoy
Mrs NB has now had a few shooting lessons and is progressing quite well so we're (well me really) are keen to get her a gun of own. Mrs NB is not exactly on the chunky side and has very small hands, subsequently she's been bumped about with a 20 bore o/u but did better with a semi. Both were a bit too long in the stock, and after about 30 -40 shells she was struggling just to get the gun up to her shoulder let alone mounting it properly. Very frustrating for her cos she can smoke 'em .In order to get the gun to fit her the stock is going to need to be shortened to about 12 1/4" or 12 1/2" and the stock wrist reduced a bit. Radical surgery but unless the gun fits her she's going to start losing interest pretty quickly I think, plus the bruises don't look too good. I know very little about semis (other than the bolt lever can nip your fingers if your not careful) so here's my question. If we get say a s/h Beretta 303 or 390/1 will there be any problem with a gunsmith taking two inches off the stock or is there gubbins inside the stock that might prevent this? Any thoughts guys? the last engineer
NB you should not have any problem finding a guy down you neck of the woods to make a custom stock for a Berreta semi, say a 390/391, its a popular model here for the ladys asits a lightand easily handling gun for them, i know of a few that have tailormade stocks for theirs, keep the old one for resale if nessasary, look around the local clubs for a old one to pattern. bondo works wonders Martin

BlaserF3
Beretta do sell a shortened stock called a ( youth version) I have no idea what they cost though. You might have to add some weight into the stock otherwise it will be too muzzle heavy and awkward to shoot.
hellier0437
you may have trouble reducing the stock on a 303, my one has a long rod that sticks out the back of the action and into the stock, a nut goes over it's end behind the but pad. i think the rod holds the recoil spring so it could not just be shortened. there is a gap between the butt pad and the end of the rod so it could be shortened a bit but i'm not sure whether it could be done enough for your purposes ie by more than 1.5-2 inches
NorfolkBoy
Appreciate the response guys. Blaser F3 - we did find a Youth model but the gf did indeed find it too nose heavy and the stock wrist seemed ill proportioned i:e too thick for smaller hands. Hey ho - the search continues.
