rimfire4969
As well as buying our poults this year I have decided to raise 200 chicks from day olds. It seems that most people I have talked too bit their chicks at about 3 weeks. Do you guys who have done this before bit your birds and at what age? I was also told yesterday that there is no need to bit them at all, but i am sure if this was the case why does everyone do it.
CharlieT
It's the only sure fired way to control feather pecking and cannibalism. Bit at 3 weeks and remove 3/4 weeks later prior to release. Just found this from the GWCt for you which may help make up your mind https://www.gwct.org.uk/game/research/disease-and-welfare/to-bit-or-not-to-bit/ Edited May 13, 2018 by CharlieT
moongeese
I have seen us bitting at 10 days with the smallest bits, then onto the three week bits. If you can get away without doing it, well done, but I could sleep at nights knowing they were bitted, and it kept the losses to a minimum .
