pavman
As a member of two local Wildfowling clubs I have to pay my BASC for each and then reclaim one of my subs. I have questioned this on many occasions and it seems a waste of resources and trees but it remains the same. My second full membership pack arrived today, I am a fan of BASC but I hate to see waste, its about time they sorted this out, you never know the money saved could reduce the subs
Country_est
Pavman, I too have this issue. but rather than cash in the second one I have been converting it into 2 junior members for by boys. This sort of work ok for a few years now, with a couple of quid either way being sorted over the phone. This year when I came to do it they said the only way to do it was to pay the juniors in full and they would refund the second membership by cheque. Like you say it just seems strange, but as such if you could get one of the clubs your a member of to stop automatically sending the money then it would be easier to sort, BUT that then throws up the problem of being covered if you drop 1 club without telling the other ect ect. At one point one of the clubs I was in offered you the option of a BASC or CA membership (when it was BFSS), but that has now gone off since CA took over. Cranfield
I was a personal member for many years originating from WAGBI, then I joined a syndicate and a shooting club, both of which insisted that membership of the BASC was incorporated in the subscription and was compulsory. When I contacted BASC to cancel my personal membership, the lady I spoke to suggested I keep paying it as a "donation". Whilst admiring her commitment to the cause, I declined and cancelled it. Fortunately, there was a revolt in the syndicate when the CA appeared and some members who were anti BASC persuaded the Shoot Captain that membership/insurance with the CA would suffice. So BASC compulsory membership was dropped. Now I just have the one membership through the shooting club. Its a pity that the BASC don't sort this out their end, but they have no motivation to do so, as they get extra funds from this anomaly. I wonder what would happen if you made two insurance claims for the same incident ? Would they pay you out on each membership.....I don't think so. Also, when are they going to get rid of the paper membership card that falls apart halfway through the year and swop it for a credit card style card ?
