njc110381 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Share Posted July 15, 2007 The .17 Hornady magnum rimfire is a .22win mag rimfire case necked down to .17. It has a very flat trajectory because the bullets weigh either 17 or 20 grains and are fired at approximately 2500fps. It's a great round for longer than .22lr ranges on small quarry like rabbits. thornton Posted July 15, 2007 Report Share Posted July 15, 2007 I have a Ruger 17 HMR. Good to about 150 yards(maybe) on game the size of a groundhog. Some say they are OK for coyotes or foxes. Not IMO unless very close. Shoots flatter than the 22 mag and is more accurate most times than the mag are the two selling points. Accuracy would be Number 1 tho.
