.243 Match Bullet

Recommended Posts

OK, so I want to start reloading match bullets for my .243 I was wondering what others use and what they recommend is worth trying & what they recommend staying away from. My RFD stocks most makes so all suggestions should be obtainable.

Cheers ;)

Martin, thanks...it was one I was considering. My main worry is that I have heard that AMax (105gn) can require fast twist rates to stabilise. The twist rate of my rifle is about 1in9, so if I did go down the MatchKing route do I go for the 70gn or 107gn?

Oly,

I'm afraid there are no hard and fast rules to this, the only way to be certain is to try to work up a load for a particular

bullet in your rifle.

For instance, I could never get decent groupings out of my Tikka T3 (1 in 10 twist) for 100gn bullets, but GM on here swears by them in his T3.

A shooting pal of mine gets excellent groupings with 105gn A-Max in his T3, so you just can't tell until you try it.

If your rifle has a 1 in 9 twist I would say it's definitley worth trying the 105gn A-Max.

My next .243 is 1 in 9 1/8 twist (Strange I know) and I know of a couple of lads using the same rifle who get fantastic long range groupings from

105gn AMax.

70's worked superbly in my 1 in 9 remy, it also shot the 105 a max well enough although i never really refined a recipe for it. 107 is a bit of a gamble i would suspect.

Try the 70's and i do believe Lapua make a scenar at 90gr which will be a good bet i suspect

Cheers guys, mine is the 9 1/8 rem twist too...think I might start with the 70's and go from there.
