Mixers or Sounders

Recommended Posts

Been having an ongoing debate with a couple of lads who along with me enjoy working terriers.............

some prefer an out an out mixer...........some prefer a sounder.....................Me personally, I prefer a bit of both, a little stout dog that will sound and hold at bay on the whole, but will mix it up when the going gets tough...............

Out of interest...............if there are any terriermen on PW...............what qualities do you prefer in your earth dogs?:good:

......................................Lets settle this once and for all

Not a terrierman myself however many would say with the tempoary ban currently upon us with strict legislation on the use of terriers below ground that surely a sounder is the only legal option as if the dog mixes with the fox if it doesn't bolt then technically you could be pulled up under the hunting act. :good: If you get caught that is. :good:

However I may be completely wrong. :good:

FM

a terrier that mixes and sounds :good: , ive seen a few sounders who when the quarry charges it the terrier lets it past it meaning its nearly impossible to dig the quarry, but a terrier that sounds but mixes when the quarry trys to boss the show means the terrier will usualy keep the quarry in the stopend thus meaning you will get a chance to dig the quarry, my bitch used to be mute straight in and locked on and smashed in bits when we dug her out but now she sounds a bit more but still mixes when needs to be :hmm: although a sounder who dosent mix and lets a fox past it can be handy in a earth that is hard/impossible to dig meaning you might get a bolt
