v-max
Hello how old is the dog & what? This is a process you will have to read your dog & guess when ready.Start of slow & more with people & the progress to the street's.With animal's etc as you requested i let them see at a distance & get down to your dog's level & suport/reasure the dog all is well as cattle normally come to see you.Or i have let them see as a pup in my arm's if they are happy to do so.This can be a fun exersize to go through & dont let them bark nip it in the bud if they start. new to the flock
Dockrat Do you have your own livestock, or do you know a farmer that will let you work the dog around his, for the porpose of making him steady? It is a simple matter of exposing him to the different animals in a controlled manner. Have him on lead and at heel as you approach the different animals. Calmly walk towards if he breaks the heel position give a pop along with an aut/phewy command and give a pop on the lead as you change direction. Once he is back in position start the approach again give praise while in position and correct when out. Once you are up close it is best to have him sit beside you and let the live stock come towards you and start the sniffing instead of trying to get close to them as you will enevidly start to push the animals away teaching the dog to chase. Once everyone is comfortable with each other continue to work in and around them until he takes no notice.
