Stu S
Well, week two of skeet shooting, did two rounds, hit 19 on the first, and 22 on the second. The wind was quite interesting, it played havoc with some of the high birds, making them drop weel before they usually do. But i made it into the shoot off for third place, but ended up only hitting one out of the four. So basically i finished 5th. The light really made the shoot off interesting, as in i could hardly see them!! They were orange clays, and it was about 915pm, so i put the yellow glasses on to try and improve the vision, but really struggled!! The pressure of the occasion got to me as well, so the light wasn't the only cause of 1 out of 4!!! Anyone else on here at lakenheath last night? simonp
I've often pondered doing the wednesday evening floodlit skeet after work, but never actually got around to doing it yet. Whats the setup ? is it comp only or free shooting (well, not £ free, you know what I mean) ? How many people go etc ? Si
Stu S
Well, the sportings still running, so if you fancy that thats the same cost as always, and with the skeet there's two contests, one is the trophy, and the other is the £'s. It costs £6 to enter the trophy contest, i think it's the same for the cash comp, but i'm not sure as i haven't entered it. Theres usually a good number of people show up, and i think it starts at somewhere around 6 (maybe earlier, but i can't get there until 6pm), and last night the shoot off started at just after 9pm. Bit awkward with the light, but others were hitting all 4, so it can't have been that bad! I believe you can pay your £6, and not have to submit your score if you don't want to. A friend of mines son chose not to have his sessions scored last night, which meant that he wouldn't have been put in the shoot off even if he hit 25/25. If you want some more info, have a look at the lakenheath website, or drop me a PM, and i'll send you my contact details! Hope that helps! Stu S
Not such a good night for me last night. While my dad was eating his nice steak in teh clubhouse, i went out and did 50 sporting, which was probably a mistake. I then did the skeet, and suffered with not being able to get into the rhythm of it. Scores were - 18, 19, 19, 20 Not quite as good as my last two weeks, but never mind, theres always next week! (or a quick visit to the range tomorrow when no-one is around to know that i did!) Stu

Stu S
I may have to come and join you one Wednesday evening if thats ok Stu Si You'd be more than welcome mate! If you fancy it this week there will be five of us in total (which is one full card, but i'm sure we can add a 6th to it, they did for me when i first went!), and we get there usually about half 6, although entry starts at half 5 i think. Let me know buddy! Drop me a PM if you fancy it! Stu
Whitebridges
I had to go to Newmarket on Sunday. Slung the shotty in the car and on the way back had 100 sporting in the afternoon. It's a long time since I shot at Lakenheath and I really enjoyed it. OK I was billy no mates but went and had a pint and watched the F1 on the box, and got chatting as you do. There was a skeet comp on (regional angian finals??) and I really enjoyed watching it and mardling with the guys. Great stuff.
Stu S
Well, got into the shoot off for third place again on wednesday, but yet again came fifth overall! Seem to really have trouble with the pairs on stand 4 when its dark and they have the floodlights on. They use orange clays, and this time i tried clear glasses, as they appeared to give me better visibility than the yellows. Hit 1 out of 4, which was pretty poor IMHO. Perhaps i need to practice in the dark with the lights on etc to make it better? In order to do that i will have to wait until the nights draw in, as thats the only time you get the lights on outside of late on a wednesday night for the competition. Stu Edit: Hits this week were: 19, 22, & 17 ex

Suffolk shooter
I wouldn't mind meeting up for that one night. Wednedsay nights isn't it? I'll have to sort out a site visit that way and then call in otherwise I won't get there until 6.30 or later. SS
Stu S
half six is a reasonable time to get there, that way theres still enough time to get in a couple of rounds of skeet, and light permitting, you may even get to do a bit on the sporting. We don't usually arrive until about 630, we sit down a have a coffee and get sorted, then tend to just do skeet for the evening, although i have done some sporting after the skeet. I'm up there pretty much every week, so if you're intending to go, drop me a PM, and we'll meet up! Stu
Suffolk shooter
Stuart, I work in Brightlingsea, Essex, but live just outside Stowmarket, so as you can see bit of a trek from Work, but deffo up for it one night. Obviously sooner the better as light starting to fade quicker each week goes by. Will see when I can pop up and have a crack, never shot skeet in the evening underlights although shot plenty at Lakenheath. Might see if I can drag MC, FG.22 or FB111 along as well. Cheers SS

Stu S
Have been getting a bit better at this old skeet lark, in three weeks i went down to the club twice (was on holiday for the middle week), and both times came home with third place trophies! I hear that there may be an NSSA style competition coming down there soon, so that could be interesting! Stu
Stu S
Woohoo! I won last night! B) 23 ex 25 in the round, then 0 ex 2 and 2 ex 2 on the first shoot off round, and 2 ex 2 and 1 ex 2 on the second round! Was shooting against two other guys, one hit nothing on his first round, so he got 3rd, and teh second guy matched me on the first round, and hit 1 on the second. I tell ya what, i was still shaking half an hour later!!! Dead chuffed though, thats my first ever competition win! I know it's a small internal club competition, but it means the same to me as it would if it were a big regional one! Stu
