Always use at least half choke (both barrels) when training, but typiclly i have 3/4 in there for it. I just do as the coach man says! Stu

Errm, just to clarify, I do smoke, but since i only had the CONVERTIBLE 1970's sports car restored last year, including new interior, new paint, new hood etc, i do not smoke in the car. So all of you that are instantly having a go at me over this can **** off really. I did not throw the butt out of the car, and where i have the issue is that as someone else has already mentionned, guilty until proven innocent is not an acceptable way to run this country. You say that your blood is boiling over me throwing something out of the car when i didn't? Well i say that my blood is boiling over people like you that attack without knowing the facts, and also that have really been very unhelpful to a fellow member that was asking for some help and advice on how to handle a situation that could have escalated from innocence to a £2,500 fine. You'll laugh at this I'm sure, I did at first! I hot a letter today from a local council stating that one of my cars (I only have two) was seen in a local town with the driver throwing a cigarette butt out of the window, and i must now provide them with the name and address of the driver of that vehicle on the day and time in question. Now, the offence took place on the 15th April 2008. Now I have trawled the legislation on god knows how many websites, and have as yet to find a definition of a reasonable timescale after the offence to be notified. It took them 46 days to get the letter to me, and I'm sure that isn't a reasonable time period to expect someone to remember who was driving the car, is it? Unfortunatley though, opinion isn't going to hold water here, i need hard fact, so if anyone can help me out here, i would be very grateful! Many thanks Stu

Well after 9 months of trying, I finally managed to get that illusive 25 straight on a skeet range on Wednesday night! It's really peculiar that it's taken this long, but it just goes to show that the battle is all in the mind, and not with the gun/clays. For a while now (about the last two months) my scores have been rising from the low 20's, and have been fairly consistent with 24's over the last month (and I never missed the same target twice), so it must be purely in the mind! Anyways, 25 straight - done. Next challenge? - Sporting scores need lifting (in a fairly major way!) Stu

Well I'm going to stick my neck out for Carl here too. I spent a day at Sporting Targets near Risely a fwe months back, and despite it being one of the hardest days shooting I have ever had, it was probably the best thing I could have done. We started off on the pattern plate, and ended up in the shop purchasing a new 3/4 choke, as the difference between 1/4 and 1/2 chokes with the cartridges I was using (Rio Star Team Pro) was so little, we both agreed that a tighter choke would help. Then out onto the range, where Carl noticed that I had a slight left eye dominance issue going on, which we addressed throughout the day. At no time did he try and change my shooting style. He helped me to refine my existing style into something that would help me to improve my shooting. The eye dominance was an issue, but after getting some ideas of ways to combat it, namely closing my left eye on a right to left crosser, it has now become a thing of the past, and since then I have in essence 're-trained' my eyes to the point that I am back to shooting both eyes open all the time. Yes it was expensive (in excess of £400) Yes it was a bit of a trek to get there and home Yes it was bloody hard work (500 cartridges - thank god some of them were 24g!) Was it worth it? Absolutley! Carl is a top bloke, who really knows what he is on about, and to top all that off, he is a brilliant teacher. I would challenge anyone to try and change my opinion of him based on my experience. Martin, no one is disputing your ability or questioning your shooting record, I was only Perhaps in a rude way, asking the new member for proof of his 25 straight, otherwise we can all come on here and ask for medals or awards, If I had shot a 25straight I would be only too pleased to say where,and when !Cheers Bud. I'm going to add some more to this discussion now - what if the ground that this chap got his 25 straight on was not running it as a CPSA registered event? I was at Lakenheath last night, and in terms of CPSA, it makes no difference to classifications, awards, or averages, so if the 25 comes on a wednesday night, all you get is a badge from the club saying - first 25 straight. AllI am saying is, lets give the benefit of doubt here, and be supportive to each other, instead of becoming paranoid about 'trolls' etc. Stu

I had a day with him a few weeks back, and i tell you, he was a fantastic coach. The only thing i had a problem with at the end of the day was the sheer number of cartridges (500) i fired, both for my shoulder and arms, and for my wallet! Great coach though, and a top guy as well. He diagnosed that i have a slight eye dominance issue, which we managed to work through (although it is still a concious effort to manage it, so not shooting as naturally as i would like yet!), but i found him to be very helpful. Really must give him a call soon to organise a follow up couple of hours or half a day, but deffo not a full day again!!!!!! Can't rate him highly enough! Stu

I am in complete agreement mate! My sister got caught by one of those types with a hairdryer a few months back, so she got her 3 points and £60 fine. Now, she was 24 at the time (now 25), and drives a BMW Z4 2.0, and her insurance was already excessive, so as a result of the points, it went up. A few weeks back she got caught again in Norwich by one of those mobile cameras this time. So she was all pi*sed off and about to kill someone (despite it being her fault admittedly), when she got another letter through the post offering her the chance to not have the points if she took a 'speed awareness' course at a cost of £100. She wasn't sure, but i sugested she might do as well to do it, despite it costing £100, as her insurance, plus the fine would exceed £100 quite considerably. When I got caught a few years back, it was 3 points and £40. No course, no nothing, just take your points. Seems royally unfair! I had to work double shifts for ages to cover the insurance increase on my motor then! Stu

Whilst i was bored at work yesterday i had a couple from just walking around with the 12g. 1 clean kill, just folded and fell out of the sky, and the other was flapping a bit when it hit the ground. I was using Rio Star Team Pro 28g 7.5's, the very same cartridges i use when clay shooting. So, cartridges fired - 4 Piggons despatched - 2 Not bad for a clay shooter i thought! I don't really get out much after pigeons and the like any more, spend to much time working and the rest either shooting clays, or spending time at home. Stu

If i did that a cold would be the very least of my concerns! I think highest on the priority list would be figuring out how to keep my nuts in the right place! Going home now, (after a slight detour to the ground to pick out stands for the shoot) and am probably going to go to bed and dose myself up. Ain't it just typical, my stag do is tomorrow, an all day affair, starting with shooting, then lunch, then go-karting, then a break for a couple of hours, then out for a meal and some beers in town. And last night I come down with some god almighty cold/flu like symptoms that have been making me feel like my head is going to explode like a melon being hit with a sledge hammer. I'm also very unhappy to say that this morning I felt a bit worse, and again now this afternoon I feel like absolute s*it. I know I wasn't exactly looking forward to elements of the stag do, like having one, because I'm quite concerned about what my mates are planning for me, but I was at least looking forward to a day out with my friends and family, and at this rate I'll be sitting in the club houses and restaurant with a nice hot mug of lemsip instead of coffee or beer. Life is soooooooooooooooooooooo unfair...................................... Stu

In terms of shooting 24g over 28g, i have been shooting them on and off for a while now, and have to say that i felt they were producing considerably less recoil, which in turn can only be good for your shoulder in later life?!? I didn't notice any decrease in my scores, and nor was i concious that the loads were less in terms of breaking the clays. I would say that you should shoot whatever you are comfortable with, but at least give them a try before you write them off completeley. Stu

I am organising my stag do for next weekend, and it involves some clay shooting (obviously!), and there are going to be three squads. At present I am having a little difficulty providing the three squads with 'amusing' or 'unique' names! All I have been able to come up with so far are names after different types of clay target or clays. Those that provide good suggestions will recieve 100 points! :blink: All help greatly appreciated!
