captainhastings
Hi folks just bought some cartridges for geese no 3 shot and they require 850 bars. Just been looking through my guns and they are rated to 3 1/4 ton. Is that enough please ? I also have an semi auto yildiz silah sanayi nbd ts 870 When I can not find a proof number unless its been painted over but it does have I think bnd stamped on it. Looks relatively newish and not ancient The cartridges are super game 30 and 36 grams if that matter. Any info welcome thank you Ah just found this over in america hopefully right ------------------- In 1989, all proof data was marked in metric using the BAR as the unit of measurement. The use of TONS per sq. inch was dropped. Under this system, 850 bar represented standard proof, with 1200 bar being special or magnum. 2 1/2" chambered guns are usually proofed 850 bar 2 3/4" chambered may be proofed 900 bar (3 1/4 tons per sq. inch) or higher. ------------------ So should be ok
wymberley
You're good to go. But, be careful. If you look into this at all, you'll find that, say, 900 bar and 3 &1/4 tons/ sq ins do not tally up. This is because the former is a proof pressure and the latter is a working pressure. As ever, just as we get used to something someone decides it's broke so "mends" it. For bar, now read pascal.

captainhastings
I see I can also work this out with chamber length. 2 ¾ in 70mm and on the box it says Min Chamber 70 so again confirms i am ok i guess
wymberley
Yep, if your chambers are that length or longer. Have to confess that I was concentrating on the figures and missed it - the "geese" word - which might just alter things if you're located somewhere where lead shot is a no no.
