fulltimeshooter
O.k. i recently bought a hawke night eye sr12 and started to zero it but have run out of upward clicks, how would I shimm my scope? I DONT WANT TO CRUSH THE TUBE! how many layers of negatives should i use?....
BSA Shaun
Wouldn't it be easier to get taller mounts and then zero down?
fulltimeshooter
not really mate as they are pretty large atm!
pin
re-centre the turret and one carefully cut bit of negative and put it under the front mount.

pin
I have no idea if this is correct form, there are people on here who have fitted and shimmed more scopes than I have had hot dinners. Ok, bad analogy (eh Miffy? - you get the idea though. Also now I have thought about it you want the rear of the scope raised to raise the impact (you ran out of up, right?) fulltimeshooter
yes, thank's mate, I just recieved a pm from 'dusk2dawn' saying he had the same problem with his identical scope and it may prehaps be a bad batch?
pin
Personally I wouldn't have thought so, I had issues with my s410 years ago and shimming solved it. Depends on loads of things. You can get adjustable mounts, they wouldn't make those if there wasn't a good reason for needing them, would they?

pin
There are so many factors in at work it's hard to say, but the thing is you have adjustments... The only scope I have had to shim was a Hawke too, but I am told and I read widely that shimming isn't uncommon
monkeyjaimz
I have a Nikko Sterling Niteater, when I first got it and tried zeroing it in I found I ran out of upward clicks. A couple of peices of micro thin plastic film under the scope on my rear mount sorted it out - been perfect ever since
