gazz
Hi all, Can someone please let me know what is the best type of scope for my 17hmr? I currently have a 3-9x40 fitted at the mo`but its underpowered for those long range shots that the 17 is capable of. I know the sky`s the limit asking this question, but some sort of mid range priced scope suggestions will be appreciated
casts_by_fly
gazz, I rescoped my 17 back in the spring. I went from 3-9 to 5-15 I wish I had gone even more, but I prefer a lot of magnification. I went with bushnell 3200 elite. It's a great scope and crystal clear. I also considered the tasco 6-24 mil-dot (not clear and quite dark) and the nikon buckmaster 4-14.5 (didn't like the BDC reticle). After having shot it a bunch now, I really love the 3200 and I am going to put a bushnell on my 223 in 2 months. thanks rick
codling99
in mho ,it depends on what ya gonna be shooting at and when, ive ha all sizes on my guns, but now settled for fixed mags ,8x56 and 6x42 s +b s . i didnt like the time it was taking to alter zoom and paralax whilst lamping ,rabbits and foxes were moving to much, opted now for fixed mag ,quicker and clearer.but if ya shooting mainly in day at range ,and you have time to alter mag, then fine get a big mag. Dave-G
I have an Elite 4200 6-24x50 on my Quad - which replaced my Elite 3200 10x40. I changed because I couldn't see the tiny .17mm holes in my target board at long range - so did as you are doing now. If I had a decent spotting scope I would refit the 10x40 now because of it's point and shoot simplicity. I plan on selling the 4200 when I hear Bushnell have sorted out their laser rangefinding riflescopes to help fund it. If someone wants to give me £340 for it with the sunshade I'd sell it now. I never use more than 12 mag (true mildot) for hunting as the field of view gets too restrictive and find 6 times is plenty unless I'm sniping on a bipod.
