When I was a kid there was a man who shot with my dad who had one it was mad as a box of frogs but then again so was he . We whent duck shooting with him 1 evening and it spent its time chewing stones, sticks and your boots if you stood still long enough untill suddenly it ran of into the bog to hunt snipe and waterhens refusing to return despite all our shouting and whistling. I was only about 10 at the time but it left me that impression of the whole breed and you dont see many articles about them in the shooting mags. Was just wondering has anyone experience of them working well or are they all a bit "tempremental".

a dog is only as good as its master thats training it. a badly behaved dog that wont come when its called isnt breed related, its 100% the owners fault

I have never owned one, but I have seen one in a retriever trial, running against retrievers and labradors, it performed very well and came third.

The name is a misnomer, as they are mainly retrievers, although they will hunt game in open ground, they don't like too much cover.
