Hodmedod.one
Went out last night with my Lamp Man/Driver *****. We shot 30 Rabbits with the 12g and then got the .243 out to go looking for Charlie. Saw two pairs of nice red eyes in a recently harrowed field, quite near to a small pit. The first set presented an easy shot but unfortunately it was unsafe as the Fox was right on the brow of a massive hill (actually the rise was about 3 feet, but thats almost a mountain around here)! The second was a safe shot. The Fox started to wander off slowly but ***** stopped it with a few squeaks. She laid down and looked straight at us. There wasn't much showing of her as the ground was fairly uneven and she was in a bit of a hole. I would estimate the range at around 120yds. There was only a pair of eyes showing but we had already made a positive identification so I went for it. Neither of us saw her run off, just the eyes disappear. I was fairly certain that I had hit the target. I had kept the rifle pointing in the direction of the shot and we spent quite a while searching for a body without any success. I was pretty hacked off to think that I had missed my only shot of the night. ***** and his daughter went out this morning and they managed to find the little lady in the pictures. Nice to prove that we did the business on her.

Nice to prove that we did the business on her. I've done similar! Taken a shot, after the recoil it was hard to find where i was even aiming. After a quick search i found nothing in the area. Stopped for a fag and then carried on along the edge of the wood only to find him about 30yds further on from where i thought id shot him. He hadn't moved from where he was when i'd fired. Lamps and darkness really can play tricks when it comes to range estimation. It's nice to know you hit your mark. Good on ya!

tikkamark
Well done hod great shot the 243 seems to be a great foxing round very humaine  It can be tricky to find them in some spots at night when every thing looks the same especially in a spot like in the pic fox would blend in a lot when the lamp is shone on that spot
