v-max
Hello & has this been going on a while?best to pick her up & take her back to where you blew the stop & enforce & repeat this over & over till required effect then polish it off.Start off at 2-3m then progress. There is many technique's to use on this matter but disapline is a must on this to as you should have quick reaction & say it once. Lancs Lad
do the sit and stay routine...............Walk out...................then come back.........give her a treat. same again..................extend distance.............come back into her and treat.......... Work her onto extended lead............should be job done. I can call jaz from about 40 meters or so away..............peep,,,,get him to stay..........call him in...peep....stay........call him in.....peep.... I was having problems getting him to stop......................and had to go down the route of Mr Canicalm when he chased after someone on horse back..... No problems with him now............ Spaniel
Lancs Lad Do you give one single short sharp peep, or do you give a slow fade away peep for sit. The later i have been told to use by my trainer, but not sure if this is just teaching my ESS Bitch to sit slowly Cheers

Long PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP for get on. 2 short peep peeps to come back. 5 peeps for change direction.............(still working on this.). I work him on the lead to get him to stop, give him a Peep once he has stopped I then tell him to sit............he then "learns" to sit on the peep. And thats about it mate. v-max
**** the treat's then you will have a spitting dog & it will get worse when older or in the field & the treat's stop.Dog should do it for the love of it & praise alot but only when task fully complete & this should be enough for the dog to get enjoyment for it's work & want more. new to the flock
hi i have a 20 month old ESS that is pretty good at sit and stop anywhere withing a 1 meter or so but if i try to stop her beyond that say at 10meter she comes running back to me and sits close by any ideas? thanks sam It sounds to me that your dog is either: a) confused as to what you are asking it to do or insecure In either case I would step back to working the sit whistle on the lead until she sits everytime you blow the whistle. I would then start stopping her at 1 meter, then 2 meters, then 3 meters until she is solid at distance. If she fails to sit at any given distance calmly take her back to where she was when you blew the whistle and sit her. Then walk back to your position. You can then recast or call her in towards you blowing a whistle at a shorter distance as she approaches you. If she starts to look worried at any time call her into you and settle her down with lots of praise and work at a shorter distance until she is ready to move out further.
