Dave-G
A T30 X-trail petrol engine. QR20DE engine throwing frequent p1110 codes. The VVT solenoid did not have filters over its oil entry slots so I replaced it - both the old and new solenoids actuate when power applied. I'm suspecting some debris might be lodged in what looks like integrated oil ways in the upper side cover. I propose to next check the integrated oil ways in the VVT cover are clear but have no idea how oil transfers from the cover to the phase actuator... any help prior to removing it would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively if anyone has a scrapped engine perhaps they could remove the cover to investigate how oil gets from the cover to the phase adjuster please? Dave-G
I found an inside cover image that answers my query. Thanks to anyone who might be looking into it for me.

Its behaving itself after I gave it a good kickdown thrashing through the gears in the hope some crud clears. The curiosity in me wonders how those holes through the 'bulges' were made.
