Keith
Fingers crossed I'll get my first permission tomorrow. But I'm worried that it all seems too easy. Acting on a tip off from the owners of the kennels where I board my Jack Russell when I'm on holiday, I got on to this long chain of farmers, the last of whom said yes you can shoot over my farm without even asking who I was or for any details. I insisted that I go up to see him first and and going tomorrow morning with insurance details etc. Just got the jitters that it's all too good to be true! Wookie
Good luck! I know it sometimes seems a little too easy, but I got my permission in a way that seemed too easy as well... I just turned up on the guy's farm and asked if I could shoot rabbits and pigeons and he said yes. A couple of weeks later, I had a map and a laminated permission to shoot from him (very thoughtful of him that last bit. No damp paper when it rains!). Let us know what happens eh? I found it very easy and weird when i arrived in Australia. I put it down to the fact there is soo much land. Pretty much everyone out in the countryside is from a farming background though and are used to shooting etc. Good on ya! I hope your meeting goes well! Keith
Thanks guys. I'd cross my fingers if I could move anything. Just played one of the hardest games of rugby in my life and am aching in places I didn't know I had places!

humperdingle
My shooting colleague and I were lying in wait for rabbits at the edge of our permission, and a lady on a horse trotted by on the other side of the hedgerow... "Feel free to shoot the rabbits and pigeons in my paddocks over there"... Country folk are much more understanding of shooters and the good they do in the countryside... much more accomodating and trusting than your average City boy - turned - country boy. Keith
You're right. When I went to see the farmer on Sunday, he didn't even get out of his tractor, just glanced at my SGC and BASC membership agreed to have a copy of the agreement but said I didn't need to sign anything and then asked me not to shoot off hundreds of cartridges each visit as the noise would irritate hias family and that was that. I'm now hoping that once I start shooting there I'll meet some more local farmers who will need pests cleared away. K
